Harleighblu & Bluestaeb: She Album Review

I knew little about Harleighblu and Bluestaeb when I added their collaborative album, She to my library. This made me very excited because 90% of the time the music from unfamiliar artists is the kind that I end up loving. Unsurprisingly, She is such an amazing album that I can’t help listening to it over and over again.

Overview

She is a collaboration album by Harleighblu & Bluestaeb comprising 13 tracks. Harleighblue does the singing while Bluestaeb handles the production. What you get here is 40 minutes of soul music and it is good. Seriously, you need to listen to this album. I’ll keep emphasizing this point throughout the review.

From the much I could gather about Harleighblu, she is from Nottingham, England and has listed Amy Winehouse as one of her influences. We all remember her, don’t we? What’s funny is that I didn’t need to google that to tell that Amy is one of her inspirations. There are songs like YRU in the album that give you Winehouse vibes and its such a good feeling.

Bluestaeb is a German producer who is also familiar with making Hip Hop music according to Last.fm’s biography. He has released a couple of albums himself but he has put his attention to production and live acts.

Production

To say that I love this album is probably an understatement. I don’t even think there is a perfect word for it. The production of She is simply immaculate. All I kept telling myself when the next song was playing is how good the instrumentals are. Like damn. You don’t even need to listen to what she has to say because you’ll have a good time listening to the beats.

But, you don’t want to do that because Harleighblu is an amazing singer. Let’s just say this is a win-win situation here. This is where you see the chemistry between her and Bluestaeb. She floors her performances in all the songs and what you get as a result is a classic. Please listen to it.

The Modern Lady and Her Modern Problems

If she’s single and she’s hot, she’s crazy baby

I’m telling you she’s a screw loose

YRU

Harleighblu talks about a lot of things here that relate to today’s modern woman. The album kicks off with Queen Dem, a dedication song to all kinds of women and acknowledging the role they play in today’s world. She proceeds to venture into modern relationship issues across the album.

For starters, I like how she states that a hot single lady is crazy in YRU. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed this IRL. One Rule talks about the moral dilemma she faces when she involves herself with a man who is in a relationship. Mind you, she is also in another relationship. Yes, she acknowledges that what she is doing is wrong but she can’t help herself but get interested in the guy.

Cheating is also a topic discussed in She. Son of a is Harleighblu being mad at a cheating partner and doesn’t want anything to do with him. And then we have Present. Oh wow. This song is deep. Look at the chorus:

I can smell her perfume

I bought it for her birthday

It’s her favorite

She wears it most days

I smell her on you

I bought it on her birthday

Looks liker her present

Was my man Anyways

Present

Do I really need to say more at this point?

Verdict

She is a beautiful album created by Harleighblu and Bluestaeb. I agree with her when she stated that this is her best work so far. I had a great time listening to it and you should too. It gets a recommendation from me. 9.2/10
