Ed Sheeran No.6 Collaborations Project

Ed Sheeran – No. 6 Collaborations Project Review

The year was 2017. I was a naive young man who was sick and tired of listening to Shape of You by Ed Sheeran being played over and over again on the radio. Well, at least Spotify didn’t make things worse right?

You can imagine my excitement when Ed announced that he was working on a new project. Don’t get me wrong, he can make great music but I just can’t stand how radio stations play his songs until they become annoying. Divide was a good album when I first heard it; now I hate it. So, let me just review No.6 Collaborations Project before I find reasons to hate it.

Overview

No.6 Collaborations Project is the fourth studio album by Ed Sheeran. One thing you should know is that Mr. Sheeran has insisted that is a compilation album. He also mentions in the album’s bio on Apple Music that he did this album with guys he liked and hopes that we would enjoy it. Well, I did enjoy it (more on that later).

What’s interesting is that this isn’t his first time doing this kind of album. He did it before with his EP No.5 Collaborations project. It’s less of him in these kinds of compilations and more of the features included in the project as you are about to find out.

Production

The compilation album has 15 songs which span 50 minutes; fairly long but I’m not complaining. What’s interesting about this album is that all the songs have different types of production. It all boils down to who is featured in the song.

For example, Camilla Cabello is featured in the song South of the Border so the production will have some Latin vibes. Cardi B is also in that song btw. You’ll get a lot of Khalid vibes in Beautiful People, grime rap in Take Me Back to London, good old rock music in the song BLOW and Travis Scott vibes in Antisocial.

The album focuses less on Ed himself but on the artists and their diverse approaches in the music industry. It’s almost as if he is appreciating all kinds of genres that people enjoy. For the most part, it works well. I have to give credit where it’s due; this is one of the very few albums this year which I enjoyed from the beginning to the end.

But…

I have to point out some not-so-good songs like I Don’t Care and Feels. You didn’t read it wrong, I don’t like I Don’t Care. Why? Because it is so corny. What’s even worse is the fact it is a song by two artists with a crazy fanbase. You have no idea how I hated hearing that song everywhere. Ugh. That song is like a time machine; it was taking me back to 2017.

What about Feels? Young Thug. Need I say more? Fortunately, those are the only songs I don’t like. The others are amazing with my favorites being Best Part of Me, Remember The Name, BLOW, Beautiful People and I Don’t Want Your Money.

Verdict

No.6 Collaborations Project is a great compilation by Ed Sheeran. I appreciate how he was able to bring artists from different genres together and make music. I love it for now until the radio decides otherwise. 9.2/10
