Welcome back to the segment that reviews the top 40 most popular songs in Kenya right now. The data is provided by Apple Music. I’ve just realized that this post was meant for last week. It seems I lost track of time. But, here I am and I should probably mark my calendars from today henceforth.
Today’s chart isn’t that different from the previous ones I checked out. Let’s have a look at the Top 40 songs in Kenya as of 11th June 2019.
#40 Post Malone – Wow: 7/10
#39 Stormzy – Vossi Bop: 8/10
#38 Halsey – Without Me: 9/10
#37 Offset feat Cardi B – Clout: 8/10
#36 J Cole – Middle Child: 8.2/10
#35 Drake – Nonstop: What is this song doing here? It’s last year’s news. 7.5/10.
#34 Avicii feat Aloe Blacc – SOS: The single from Avicii’s last album is kind of a rehash of Wake Me Up. It’s not as good as the first collaboration but I’ll give it a pass. 7/10
#33 Khalid – Saturday Nights: 7/10
#32 Burna Boy – Ye: 7.5/10
#31 YG feat Tyga & Jon Z – Go Loko: 7.5/10. (Btw, you can read my full review of YG’s album)
#30 Cardi B – Press: Go and read my review of the song. 7.5/10
#29 Future – XanaX Damage: The Atlanta rapper released an RnB EP which Keshie will review later on this week. As for this one, the song is short, his voice is over-processed (if there is such a thing) and I don’t like it. 6/10
#28 Future – Please Tell Me: A much better song from him. I like the beat and his flow. 7.8/10
#27 Chris Kaiga feat Tezzla – Zimenice: Finally, a Kenyan song but it’s just okay. It’s a club hit with some nice beats but the lyrics; goodness me those lyrics. 😂😂 7/10
#26 Ethic – Pandana: This isn’t a new song but it has finally been able to rank high enough for me to criticize it. Yes, the group has some catchy songs with some catchy phrases but they aren’t that good as artists. 7/10
Someone had to say it. #27 and #26 are songs that are fine in clubs but not on my playlist. You know it’s true.
#25 Future – Government Official: This is your typical Future song which isn’t a bad thing. I was actually wondering how long it will take for me to listen to such a song. 7.5/10
#24 Skepta & Nafe Smallz – Greaze Mode: Another typical rap song from the UK rapper but I like it. There is nothing spectacular about the rapping but I like the vibes the song has. 8/10
#23 Khalid – Talk: 9/10
#22 Rema – Dumebi: 6/10
#21 Diamond Platnumz feat Fally Ipupa – Inama: I feel like I reviewed this song before but I haven’t. Well, it’s a good song; nothing more to say about that. 8/10
#20 Tyga feat J Balvin & Chris Brown – Haute: It’s an okay club hit from Tyga. Unfortunately, his whole album is more or less the same story. 7.5/10

#19 Tyler, The Creator – EARFQUAKE: 9/10
#18 Meek Mill feat Drake – Going Bad: 7/10.
#17 DJ Khaled feat Cardi B & 21 Savage – Wish Wish: 8.5/10
#16 DaBaby – Suge: 6/10
#15 Rayvanny feat Diamond Platnumz – Tetema: 7/10
#14 Wiley, Stefflon Don & Sean Paul feat Idris Elba – Boasty: 8/10
#13 Khalid – Better: 6.8/10
#12 Dave feat Burna Boy – Location: 7.5/10
#11 NSG – OT Bop – An okay grime song but I find the beats quite annoying. I can’t be the only one who thinks so. 7/10
#10 Burna Boy – Gbona: 9/10
#9 Koffee – Toast: 8/10
#8 Joeboy – Baby: 6/10
#7 Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber – I don’t Care: 6/10
#6 Lil Nas X feat Billy Ray Cyrus – Old Town Road (Remix): 9.5/10
#5 Harmonize, Burna Boy & Diamond Platnumz – Kainama: 7/10
#4 Burna Boy – On the Low: 8.5/10
#3 Young Thug feat J Cole & Travis Scott – The London: J Cole shines in this song, Travis sounds horrible in the chorus and Young Thug, well…He’s just being himself. 7/10
#2 Chris Brown feat Drake – No Guidance: This is a surprise collaboration; who thought the two would work together? The song is good but not that great. 8/10
#1 Sauti Sol feat Bensoul, Nviiri the Storyteller, Crystal Asige & Kaskazini – Extravaganza: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS! A Kenyan song topping the Kenyan chart. 9.4/10
Oh yeah, I talked about the song in length in my review.
This week’s chart is quite satisfying. Three Kenyan songs are featured, one of them at the top. I’m happy about that. See you in two weeks.
