Ed Sheeran Cross Me

Ed Sheeran feat Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock – Cross Me Single Review

So, Ed Sheeran is going to drop an album later on this year. I’m both excited and sad. Excited that he is making new music; sad that all his songs will dominate the chart. Remember what happened with Divide? Anyway, let’s look at the new song from Ed Sheeran, Cross Me.

Overview

Cross Me is the second single released by Ed Sheeran for his upcoming album No. 6 Collaborations Project. It will come out later on July 12. According to reports, the album will have at least one feature in every song. The first single was I Don’t Care featuring Justin Bieber. To be honest, I didn’t like the song. That doesn’t matter as the song broke the Spotify record for most streams in a single day. I mean, a collaboration between Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran sent shock waves all over the world.

The question is, Is Cross Me a better song? Yes.

Production

Fred Gibson produces the song whose hook samples PnB Rock’s 2017 XXL freestyle. What makes this song so interesting is the thought of Ed Sheeran transitioning into mainstream rap. It wouldn’t be so bad because he handled himself well in the song. Let’s be honest though, Chance is the star of the song. Please don’t come at me in the comments section.

Side note, I’m interested to see what Ed has in store for us in the full album. First, who else is featured in the upcoming album? Second, will he be experimenting with different genres? Finally, will the diversity affect the quality of the album? Only time can tell.

Lyrical Theme

The premise is simple; Ed and Chance are in committed relationships. If you dare to come in between their relationships, there will be problems. Aww, how sweet. They must be the nicest guys in mainstream music right now.

I don’t mind them defending their partners albeit the fact that they sound corny while doing so. So far so good, it seems the album will be just fine, not great, but it will sure break a lot of Spotify records. Because why not?

Verdict

Cross Me is a good song from Ed Sheeran. Better than the first single he put out because I genuinely didn’t care for it. July 12 is the date to watch out for. I hope it is a good album. 8.2/10
