OneRepublic – Rescue Me Single Review

OneRepublic Rescue Me

2019 sure is going to be a great year for music. Taylor Swift is back, P!nk released her seventh album and Billie Eilish released her debut album. Things are certainly getting better with OneRepublic releasing their new song, Rescue Me.

Rescue Me is the first release OneRepublic has put out since 2017. There are rumors that there might be an album coming but that is just speculation. Besides, the frontman Ryan Tedder has been a busy man as of late. All we can do is hope.

The song’s production isn’t new to OneRepublic fans and that’s fine. Ryan once again delivers with his vocals and the instrumentation is clean; nothing complicated. It’s a simple song which runs under three minutes.

The music video makes things surreal with a kid standing up to bullies by dancing. Yeah, I think my 10-year-old self would think that it’s a good idea to have a dance off with bullies.

Lyrical Theme

Ryan describe the meaning of the song in a recent interview as follows:

In every friendship: there’s a give and take, but sometimes you have to wonder if the love you give is the love you’ll get.

The message is quite relatable in today’s world where everyone does things for their own selfish reasons. People associate with others just to get something from them and not offer anything in return. The same could also be said for relationships. This is why I like OneRepublic; their lyrical themes are usually sensible.

Rescue Me marks the return of OneRepublic in 2019. It’s a short and decent song which hopefully indicates an album coming out soon. 8/10.
