The Anomaly Diary

My Anticipated Albums of 2019

It’s going to be a good year.

2018 served us with a butt-load of albums. I, personally had a time keeping up with all the releases. This year, however, things will be different. I’m on top of new releases that are to come out this year. Perhaps what I would like to achieve this year is listen to more indie albums than mainstream albums.

The hype for 2019 releases begun in September 2018. There are several records that are under my radar this year. Let us look at them.

1. Rihanna

When I heard that Rihanna is releasing new music in 2019, this is how I reacted.

Seriously, who doesn’t love Riri? She has been in the industry for over a decade now and her legacy is fully cemented. Her previous record Anti ticked all the right boxes and I couldn’t be more eager for her new release.

Will she break streaming records? I don’t think so because these records are broken every other day. One thing is for sure is that her singles will be at the charts for an extended period of time.

2. Cardi B

Invasion of Privacy was a great starting point for Cardi B’s career. It proved that she was more than just a one hit wonder and it broke the Nicki Minaj monotony. I considered as my top 10 albums of 2018 and deservedly so.

Cardi has now confirmed that a new album is coming in 2019. Given the success of the first album, I’m eager to see where she will go from here. My hope that this isn’t another case of Migos’ Culture albums.

3. Slipknot

All Out Life was released on 31st August 2018 and caused an uproar in the rock genre. Slipknot are back and are making new music to be released this year. Rumors suggest that this might be a double album and be their last time recording music. To be honest, these guys are aging and they can’t be doing their crazy shows forever given how most band members spend more in the hospital recovering from injuries.

Whatever decision they make with regards with their music direction is fine with me. They have and still are a jewel in the rock industry. I just want to hear new music from them. Corey Taylor said that it is lowa level of heavy which makes me so eager for it. Iowa was such a dark album btw. Yeah, I’m a twisted guy. Get used to it.

4. Ariana Grande

Just when I thought I would play Sweetener for some more time, Ariana released Thank you, Next. Clearly, this hinted at a new album from the pop icon. To be honest, I don’t like that single; it’s just okay. Should I be worried about the quality of the album? Not really. As long as Nicki isn’t featured in her new album, I’ll be fine.

5. Adele

She is about to announce her new album release date (November?) and all the artists will push forward their release dates. Adele is that artist you cannot ignore. Her amazing vocals and effort put in her songs make her one of the best artists in the 21st Century. She is just amazing.

What’s going to be interesting about her album release is when Taylor Swift will release hers. Speaking of Swift…

6. Taylor Swift

Given the dark album that was Reputation, it will be interesting to see what Taylor Swift comes up with next. Some say that her time is up as the Princess of Pop but that will be determined by the new release. It’s all or nothing for her this year.

With Adele, Dua Lipa and The Weeknd all set to release their albums in 2019, Taylor Swift finds herself between a rock and hard place. She needs to come with the best music she has ever released. Something better than 1989. I liked that album btw. If she can pull it off, she’ll prove people wrong.

Those are the people I have put on the spotlight this year. It will be interesting to see if they will release good or bad albums. Be sure that I will give extensive reviews for the 6 artists. In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye out for indie albums. There are so many albums released in Apple Music that I’ll have to be listening to at least 5 every week.

Let’s see if I’ll keep up with the pressure.
