Another week, another time to look at what’s going on in the world of music. Let us begin.
The State of Kenyan Music
Sanaipei Tande was being interviewed the other day and she said that the Kenyan Music Industry has a long way to go. She went on to say the only reason why the Nigerian, Tanzanian and South African industries are thriving is because of the quality of music they produce. Nyashinski and Sauti Sol were considered as some of the only good artists in the country. You can read more about her interview here.
You know what? I agree with her. I, first, acknowledge her contribution to the Kenyan music industry in the 00s. Back then, artists were hungry and dished out hit after hit. Hey, Nyashinski was still there with his crew Kleptomaniaxx. How I miss those days. What about today? Well, we do have good music from several artists but the general overview is quite worrying. We have Khaligraph Jones, MDQ, Octopizzo (he’s doing really well), Sauti Sol, Otile Brown and Nyashinski. These guys dedicate their time to work their craft but it somehow goes unappreciated the public.
This is where I turn to the Kenyan audience. We seem to be a confused lot. How can we be Kenyans but love other country’s music? Do you even understand that South African song that you dance to? Sure, we’re Africans and all that but what about our own? Why can’t we cherish our artists the same way we cherish Diamond Platinumz? I may never get an answer.
Tha Carter V
This record decided to drop when I was attending a three-hour lecture. 😂 You can tell how excited I was when I received a notification of Weezy’s new album. It was a breath of fresh air. I pulled out my headphones and started listening to it right away. Expect a review later on in the week.
If I’m right, this is the last album Lil Wayne will ever make. All I can say is that it has been too damn long. I’m certain that some of the songs he put out when it was originally set to be released (2014) were scrapped because they are outdated. Redsan should learn a thing or two about scrapping old hits in a new album. Just saying.
Anyway, my first impression of it is excellent. I can officially call it the album of the week. That’s right, the album of the week segment is back. 😜 Tha Carter V is a great album to revive this segment. It’ll be posted as a different article and links to the album will be provided. Legal sites i.e. I can’t give you illegal sites people, they watching. 😂
That’s it for this week. Look out for three new album reviews this week. I can already tell you that my week will be busy as hell. I like it though. Be on the look-out.
