“Each person does see the world in a different way. There is not a single, unifying, objective truth. We’re all limited by our perspective.”Siri Hustvedt
Life. The best and worst thing to ever to have happened to human beings. Your opinion is solely based on how you accept to see things. It rarely has nothing to do with you being optimistic or apathetic but only with how you accept life. This is why you see optimistic people going through hell or the worst of the worst having things go their way.
It is said that you cannot solve a problem as the same person you were when you realized it. Something always changes and that is your perspective of tackling it. This is true for all areas of your life. You cannot expect your relationship with your partner to get better when you’re still holding on to outdated values. You cannot expect your sense of adventure to get better if you don’t know what to enjoy out of life. It all has to do with how you see things. Clearly, you can see our thinking can be very dangerous and detrimental to our lives. But there is always a solution. Of course, there is.
Think of it this way. You have a smartphone and it has apps. These apps work to serve your purpose be it your social life, your intellectual life or just for entertainment. Sooner or later, your apps begin having problems and doesn’t work like they used to. So, you turn to the App Store or the Play Store and look for new updates for the apps. Once updated, the apps run even better and might have new features to enhance your experience. Try to replicate this scenario with your life. You are basically the smartphone; your beliefs are the apps and the Store is your source of inspiration.
What you should be taking from this illustration is that thoughts about things change with time. I mean, that’s why they say the world is changing at a rapid pace. This means you can’t be holding on to outdated values in this new world. Always be willing to change your values every time you find them not working for you. Look for inspiration to change your perspective about life. Where does this perspective come from? Reading books is my major source of inspiration. Read books from successful people and understand how they were able to overcome the odds and gain new perspective in your life. There is so much to learn in this life. Learn as much as possible and install it in your mind and sooner than you think, you’ll be an extraordinary human being. Consider it like your personal adventure to being a great person. It’s exciting and scary at the same time.
If you’re not convinced by all this, there are two truths you need to know about life: absolute truth and relative truth. Absolute truth are the plain facts. This is hot. This is ripe. This is new. The laws of physics. The facts which can never be disputed because they are there by default. Then there is the relative truth; the ones that are considered true based on one’s beliefs. These range from your morals, cultures and faith about deities. They are considered true because you consider them to be so but in real sense they are just things you told your brain to believe.
Can’t you see you’re making it all up?
